The Player Hides His Past Wiki
Overview

Lee Hoyoel (이호열) is the protagonist of The Player Hides His Past. He is the last surviving Demon Hunter in the world after the fall of Arkshan.

Appearance[]

Before his assimilation to his Arcana character, Hoyeol was of average height and lean build. Similar to his height, he had black hair and brown eyes, which were also very common for the average man in Korea. After being "assimilated" with his character Granfel, Hoyeol grew a bit taller and gained more muscle. His hair was also turned silver and his eyes gray. He is always seen wearing the same suit everywhere he goes, whether he is exercising or exploring a rift. Although he wears it so often, this is the only suit he owns.

He is described by Nam Cheolmin as looking like an aristocrat from a fantasy novel.

Personality[]

Lee Hoyeol's personality before his assimilation with Granfel and after is very different. This difference, while lessening as time goes on, still shows in his inner monologue, due to how his thoughts are the only consistent place where he can think freely without Granfel controlling his body. Granfel's own thoughts will sometimes clash with his own, so the contrast between the two is very noticeable at times. Especially in the beginning, when he was first getting used to Granfel's persona being incorporated into his life. One thing in particular that caused conflict was the nature of Granfel, more specifically, how chunni he was. With the silver hair, sad backstory, and cringy phrases, at first Granfel caused lots of turmoil within Hoyeol's life and thoughts.

However, he later on got used to Granfel and little things like his preferences and habits changed too. For example, after he got more assimilated to Granfel, he grew to love drinking tea, and even elected to bring tea as opposed to a warm coat when he was exploring the rift in Russia. In addition, he now greatly values formalities, and refuses to entertain anyone who speaks informally to him. After Granfel, he grew more courageous, and even rejected the idea of backing down at the thought of facing demons as the lone demon hunter, although his fears will still get expressed in the secrecy of his own mind. This constant push and pull between personas is also shown when the prospect of earning money as a Player comes up. He expresses excitement at his earnings, whereas his Granfel persona feels a detachment for material things due to having so much for most of his life.

Abilities[]

  • Natural Enemy: Increases combat power by a considerable margin when fighting against a demon.
  • Silver Mastery
  • Shooting Mastery: Increases the accuracy of shots that are taken.
  • Simultaneous Shooting
  • Exorcism Ritual: A Demon Hunter's attack that only harms Demons and not the host being possessed by the Demon. If used with a medium, the skill can allow the Demon Hunter to invite their target into their mind.

Apart from the prerequisite Demon Hunter skills, Lee Hoyeol included the following as Granfel's abilities when he was created during middle school:

  • Incredible intelligence
  • Innate magical talent: Allows him to learn most spells by just looking at them, regardless of whether or not he sees them in person or via video. Hoyeol is able to see the principles behind the spells he sees and as long as he has enough mana, he will be able to cast them.
  • High physical potential[2]

Relationships[]

Nam Cheolmin[]

Lee Hoyeol first meets Cheolmin when the latter is acting as party leader and tank when former goes on his first raid at the Gnoll's Cellar rift. During the raid, Cheolmin is possessed by a Demon. Hoyeol exorcises it, consequently saving him. Impressed and moved by Hoyeol, Cheolmin convinces his brother Taemin to try and recruit Hoyeol to Gaon Guild, the top guild in South Korea. However, due to a series of misunderstandings, the recruitment is unsuccessful. Although the end result was negative, Cheolmin and Taemin displayed determination while recruiting him, and at least sets the stage for a positive relationship.
